“Business should be used as a force for good”

You’ve probably heard us shouting from the rooftops about our new B Corp™ certification. But what exactly is it? Why are they important, and why are we so excited about this new accreditation? How do B Corporations make an impact on the world, and how is a company given this accreditation? We’ve got a brief low down on the what, why and how below.

    The What

Certified B Corporations® are businesses that work to meet the highest standards of verified environmental and social performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance both purpose and profit.

Unlike traditional businesses, B Corporations® are legally held to consider the impact of all business decisions on all stakeholders, including the supply chain, the environment, customers and workers. In short, B Corp™ (short for B Corporation, but you’ve probably figured that out) is a globally recognised community of the world’s most sustainable and recognisable brands.

The certification is accredited by  B Lab, the non-profit organisation behind the entire label. In total, there are over 4,300 Certified B Corporations® from more than 150 industries and 75 countries that share the same goal: to redefine success in business.

    The Why

Especially now more than ever, in a time of climate crisis, social disruption and economic uncertainty, the demand to support value based and purpose driven companies has risen. Beside this, our biggest mission as a company from our conception in 2013 has always been to bring a better cup of coffee to you, in a way that’s kinder to the planet and our communities.

    The How

To become a B Corp™, a company is not just evaluated on its product or its service,  instead it is rigorously assessed in five key categories: governance, workers, customers, community and the environment.

We’re happy to share that we received a score of 104.1, which makes us the highest rated coffee company in the UK!

THE B CORP DECLARATION OF INTERDEPENDENCE

We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good.
This economy is comprised of a new type of corporation - the B Corporation -
Which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
As B Corporations and leaders of this emerging economy, we believe:

That we must be the change we seek in the world.

That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place matter.

That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.

To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
