All our outer boxes are made using recyclable materials, and are 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
Currently, our packaging is non-recyclable. As we have cut down on waste by refusing to package our capsules individually, we are constrained by the necessity of keeping our coffee fresh. We are currently testing a compostable bag that will hopefully become available 2017.
Our plastic capsules are currently recyclable – however, the foil lids are not so will need to be separated before placing in your recycling bin. The coffee grounds themselves can be used to compost – and have countless applications around the home.
MAKING THE PERFECT COFFEE
You should always look to use filtered tap water where possible in your machine. This will do the least amount of damage to the taste of the coffee, whilst helping to prevent lime scale build-up.
You should change your water daily.
WARMING YOUR CUP
Warming your cup before use makes a massive difference to your coffee – if your coffee hits a cold mug, it will leave you with a much flatter brew as the rapid drop in temperature will effectively kill off many of the more delicate aspects of the coffee.
WARMING YOUR MILK
If you have time, you should look to warm your milk if you’re thinking of adding some. In the same way that a cold cup will numb the coffee, cold milk will shock our blends.
DOUBLE UP FOR LONGER BREWS
Our capsules hold 5.5g of coffee, whilst a typical Flat White will have around 14.0g if bought from a coffeehouse – so if you’re looking for a longer cup of coffee, don’t hesitate to use 2 pods. Whilst other competitors offer longer brews, we will never compromise flavour for strength or length of pour.
MAINTAINING YOUR MACHINE
You should look to descale your machine at least once a month – if not more. You can buy descaling kits direct from your machine’s manufacturer or from us. We offer a cheaper, organic alternative that you can find online here.
To make sure you don’t get a build-up of coffee in your machine, we recommend that you run water through the machine first thing in the morning and after your last cup in the evening. This may seem excessive, but it will make a big difference to the lifespan of your machine – and you can always use that water to warm your cup before brewing.
Our pods are roasted, ground and sealed within the space of a few hours, meaning that once they are packaged they will be good for 14 – 16 months; but as we never roast more than we need, you should never receive coffee that is more than 2 months old.
All coffee should be kept in a cool, dry place.
After opening our packs of capsules, be sure to keep them in an airtight container and out of direct sunlight. Like this, they will be good to use for 1 – 2 months.
We have tested our pods extensively and found them to work well on all Original Line Nespresso® machines. The only exceptions to this rule include some built-in models that use a carousel mechanism, such as some Miele products.
