Organic & ethically sourced coffee
CRU Kafe started in 2013 with one decision we've never gone back on: only ever organic, ethically sourced coffee. The blends, the certifications and the packaging all follow from that.

Three things we won't compromise on.
Soil Association Certified
All our coffees are certified organic. No synthetic pesticides, no solvents, only natural certified fertilisers.
Guaranteed Fairtrade
Every bean is Fairtrade certified and traceable to source, so growers are protected from a volatile market.
Fully recyclable
Pods in recyclable aluminium, everything else in recyclable cardboard and LDPE. We were the first independent brand on Podback.
It started with a friend and an old capsule.
CRU was born back in 2013 when our founder Bodil saw a friend filling her old Nespresso® capsules with her favourite speciality coffee. For her, it was a lightbulb moment, and after several months of frantic tinkering, our first ever product, the Flat White coffee capsule, was launched.

We wanted our coffee to taste good, without the use of pesticides, and do good within the supply chain. That decision made everything afterwards harder but better.Tom Greensmith · CEO
Organic certification is not easy to get and not cheap to keep. Fairtrade means paying a premium on every bean, every year, in good times and bad. Moving the pods to aluminium in 2018 meant rebuilding the supply chain for a product that already worked.
More than a decade on, the principle has held. It is why the certifications on this site are third-party audited rather than self-declared, and why we publish what they actually mean.
Origin is a flavour, not a label.
Many factors can affect the flavour of a coffee bean: where it grows in the world, how much rain and sun it gets, how it's dried, and the soil it's grown in.
Whether they come from Ethiopia, Colombia, Honduras or Sumatra, the crops unveil distinctive flavours, mouthfeels, smells and shades of brown, making every origin a recognisable sensory experience.
Grounded in ethical principles, we collaborate with farmers who follow rigorous organic farming processes, using zero pesticides or chemicals but instead fertilisers that come from the forest and its soil, leading to an incredibly rich flavour and impeccable quality.
By bypassing intensive farming practices, we prevent deforestation and support the conservation of wildlife, birds and vegetation.
